Verla Detchon

Columbiana — Verla Jean Detchon, 89, of Columbiana, died Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Parkside Health Care Center with her family by her side.

She was born February 28, 1928, in Sebring, OH, the third daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Allmon Ferguson.

She was a 1946 Graduate of Sebring High School. She worked as head cook at Southern Local Middle School for 25 years, retiring in 1990. She enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, reading, her monthly lunch with her “lunch bunch” group and most of all her grandchildren and family.

She is survived by a daughter Dianne (Tom) Baughman of Columbiana; a son David (Trudy) Detchon of Lisbon; a daughter in law, Brenda Hanna of East Liverpool; two sisters, Vera Stroup of St. Clairsville and Sylvia Mummert of Cleveland, TN; a brother Robert Ferguson of Alabama; grandchildren, Lisa Velasquez, Holly (Larry) Morris, Sarah (skip) Willoughby Sonia (John) Waggoner, Ken (Jodi) Baughman, Matthew (Nichole) Detchon, James (Felicia) Detchon, Trudy (Jeremy) Baker and Tonya Starr, 14 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

Verla was preceded in death by a son, Dean Detchon and a brother Lewis Ferguson.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, with pastor Tom Allmon officiating.

Calling hours will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 and again on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service, all at the funeral home.
