Carson Shreve

CALCUTTA — Carson G. Shreve, 94, of Calcutta, died Wednesday morning at the Calcutta Health Care Center. Born in Smithfield, W.Va., on Feb. 2, 1922, he was the son of the late Elias and Melissa Stout Shreve.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Pacific Theater. He worked at the former Crucible Steel Company, retiring in 1982.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Garnet Hickman Shreve; a daughter, Norene Kay “Sis” Durbin; two brothers, Ardell and Ray Shreve; a sister, Nora Lemasters; a grandson and a great-grandson.

Survivors include three daughters, Rosemary Maxwell of New Cumberland, Charlene Hendrixson of Columbus and Irene Douglass of East Liverpool; a sister, Mary Lou of New Martinsville; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Dawson Funeral Home, where the  Rev. Norman Eckert will officiate services at 1 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be at Calcutta Cemetery.
