Clifford “Cliff” D. Davis was born August 14, 1932 in East Palestine, OH and died on August 9, 2014 at the age of 81.
Cliff grew up in East Palestine playing and excelling in many sports, including football, which he continued to play at Mount Union College before entering the U.S. Army in 1953. Cliff continued to play football for the Army when he was stationed at Fort Benning, GA.
After leaving the service, Cliff attended Youngstown State University where he further pursued his favorite sport. Cliff thoroughly enjoyed sports throughout his life, playing tennis and golf whenever he could.
Cliff worked at many jobs during his early life, including washing cars, delivering photos for his brother at Davis Studio and working with customers at the First National Bank in East Palestine before joining the East Palestine Police Force. Later, Cliff left the police force to work at General Motors, Lordstown, where he moved up the ranks from a security officer to the Chief of Security for 3 of the plants.
After retiring, Cliff kept busy cutting grass and working for Hays Enterprises before moving to Estero, FL where he worked as a starter and scheduler at the Stoneybrook Golf Course.
Cliff loved to meet up with friends and reminisce about his youth, the career that he loved, sports and his family. He loved helping others as well; whether it was loaning money or possessions, working at the church, helping friends with advice or assisting others with getting jobs, Cliff truly enjoyed doing what he could for others.
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Virginia Davis, one sister, Mrs. Ruth Haggerty, six brothers, William, Don, Paul, John, James, and George and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Sally Sutherin, his children, Glenn “Mike,” Jill, and David (Cynde) and grandchildren, Tucker and Rebecca.
Per his wishes, there were no services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to the Centenary United Methodist Church in East Palestine, OH or to Avow Hospice on Whippoorwill Lane in Naples, FL.
