Edna Hazel

COLUMBIANA – Edna Gertrude Hazel, of Whispering Pines, Columbiana, passed away at the Salem Regional Medical Center Friday, July 25, 2014. She was 89.

Born in London, England, August 28, 1924, she was a daughter of the late William Philpot and Lillian Smith Philpot

She was a member of the Lisbon, Ohio Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was a housewife.

Her husband, Lester Eugene Hazel, preceded her in death on September 12, 2006.

There are four daughters, Marilyn Trares, and her husband Ray, of Gavers, Mary Ellen Chuey, and her husband Jonathan, of West Point, Marsha Detwiler, and her husband Russell, of Gavers, and Julie Ypparila, and her husband Sam, of Montana, as well as a son, Lester Ernest “Butch” Hazel, and his wife Terri, of Mexico.

She also leaves behind a brother James Philpot, and his wife Shirley, of England, 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted by Brother Allan Foster on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at the Lisbon Ohio Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, located on the corner of State Route 45 and Hunters Camp Road just north of Lisbon.

Services were completed by the Dawson Funeral Home. Burial was at Riverview Cemetery.

A homemaker, she was a member of the Lisbon Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Her husband, Lester Eugene Hazel, preceded her in death.

Survivors include four daughters, Marilyn Trares and Marsha Detwiler of Gavers, Mary Ellen Chuey of West Point and Julie Ypparila of Montana; a son, Lester Ernest “Butch” Hazel of Mexico; a brother James Philpot of England; 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted by Brother Allan Foster at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Lisbon Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
