EAST LIVERPOOL – Darrell Carl Serafy, 89, formerly of Imperial Drive, died at 2:10 a.m. Saturday at the Calcutta Health Care Center.
A lifetime area resident and son of the late Carl R. and Etta Wells Serafy, he was born in East Liverpool on Oct. 16, 1924.
As a veteran of World War II and a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, he graduated from Flight Officer Candidate School and was a multi-engine pilot while serving in the Air Corps.
Mr. Serafy had worked as an insurance statistician for attorney Francis Lang, then worked in the accounting departments at Litton Motors and RemCru, a division of the former Crucible Steel. He later became the comptroller of the former Patterson Industries, and retired in 1989 as the chief accountant of the Homer Laughlin China Co.
He was a member of the 1st Evangelical Presbyterian Church,
Survivors include his wife, Marwynne Trappe Serafy; two daughters, Darolyn Sue McComas of East Liverpool and Deborah Lee Nicholson Och of Lake Jackson, Texas; a son, David Alan Serafy, of Groton, Connecticut; five grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Two brothers, Delmar and Donald Serafy, preceded him in death.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Dawson Funeral Home. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be at Riverview Cemetery.
