Columbiana – Dolores Mock, age 72, of Columbiana, died on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at her residence.
She was born in Jeanette, PA on January 3, 1942 and moved to Ohio in 1965. She was a daughter of the late Albert and Mary Basile Peperato.
Mrs. Mock was employed as a personnel secretary at Eljer Plumbingware in the 70’s. She served as Middleton Twp. Clerk / Treasurer and Rogers Village Clerk / Treasurer. Dolores was employed as a correspondent for the Morning Journal for a brief time before becoming Executive Director for the American Cancer Society for Columbiana County in 1979.
After retiring from the ACS in 1992, she served as treasurer for State Rep. Sean Logan and continued on as treasurer while he was County Commissioner. She then became a licensed agent for Allstate Insurance Co. in Columbiana for several years and had retired from a local church where she had been working as a secretary. Recently, she had been volunteering at the Salem Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Mock was also active in Democrat politics and served as 2nd Vice Chairman and then became County Chairlady for the County. She served as precinct committeewoman for 34 years and then went on to serve on the Executive committee.
Dolores was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Columbiana, where she was very active. She sang in the choir and served on the welcoming committee, funeral committee and was an usher and a greeter.
Although Dolores had many interests, none were more important to her than her family. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Thomas W. Mock, whom she married on May 20, 1959; a daughter, Terri (Tim) Birnesser of Columbiana; a son, Thomas M. Mock of Nashville, TN; a sister, Lucy (Don) Eglhaut of Jeanette, PA; three grandchildren, Timothy (Amanda) Birnesser of East Palestine, Eric (Sarah) Birnesser of Parma and Aubrie (Keith) Drewnoski of Leetonia; three great grandchildren, Georgianna, Sophia and Zoey; several nieces and by her loving companion, Todo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, Camille Basile and a brother, Albert Peperato.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church, Columbiana, with the Rev. Thomas Ziegler officiating.
Burial will be at the Columbiana Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dolores may be made to either Hospice of the Valley or the American Cancer Society.
