EAST PALESTINE – The life journey for Susanna M. Figley came to a close on June 8, 2014, while she was a resident of Covington Skilled Nursing in East Palestine, Ohio for a brief period.
Susanna was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on December 18, 1926 to the late Paul J. Lemal and Bertha (Risden) Lemal. Susanna lived in East Liverpool her entire life and was 1944 graduate of East Liverpool High School.
After she completed high School, she was employed as a meat cutter at the A & P Grocery Store. She then went to work at the YMCA as the Night Desk Clerk, working there for 25 years where she was known as the Mean Lady on the desk. On Saturdays she was a babysitter for a lot of mothers who would drop their kids off at the Y to watch Saturday morning cartoons before swim lessons. She then went to work for the Columbiana County Senior Aide Program for many years, last working at the Museum of Ceramics in East Liverpool.
Susanna loved bowling and belonged to the Tuesday Perennial League for over 30 years. She loved doing crafts, cross stitch and plastic canvas. Later on in life she loved working circle word puzzles and reading.
Susanna is survived by her daughter and her husband: Susan (Michael) Sigler of Calcutta, OH; her two grandsons, who she loved telling everyone that her daughter gave her beautiful twin grandsons, Joshua Sigler and his wife Mary Alice and Christopher Sigler and his wife Shelby. She was also blessed with a great granddaughter: Tatym Sigler and a special niece: Luann Hanlon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Figley; a sister: Beverly Travis and a nephew: Steven Travis.
Interment will be beside her parents in Spring Grove Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes.
