POLAND – Paul F. Beight II, 92, 301 W. Western Reserve Rd., Poland, OH 44514 went to be with the Lord after suddenly falling ill Friday, May 23.
He was born April 18, 1922 in Petersburg, OH, a son of Paul F. and Grace (Sheely) Beight.
He was a graduate of Youngstown State University with a B.S. in Education. He attended the Teachers College at Columbia University from 1945 1949 and received a Masters of Arts and the Professional Diploma in Education. He did further graduate work at Parsons School of Design and the New York School of Interior Design, and was a member of Alpha Psi Omega honorary fraternity.
Paul was an Industrial and Fine Arts teacher supervisor in the Girard City School System. He formerly taught at Howland, Springfield Local, and Youngstown State. His art work was exhibited at the Butler Art and Columbia University.
Paul formerly owned the World House Gift and Decorative Accessory Shop in Boardman from 1963 until 1996 when he closed the store in the Carriage House known now as the “Glenellen”.
He held a life membership in the state and national Education Association, and a life member of the international Kiwanis and of Poland Kiwanis. He served for three years as President of the Western Reserve Kiwanis Club. Paul was also a life member of the Alumni Association of Youngstown State.
Paul was a member of the great Chatterbox Club, the Poland Masonic breakfast club, and the Saxon Retirees. In Masonic activities, Paul was a Master Mason of Allen Blue Lodge, Royal and Select Masons Omega Council No. 42, Royal Arch Masons New Lisbon Chapter No. 92, Salem Commandery Knights Templar No. 42. He was also involved in the Scottish Rite and was a life member of Hiram Lodge of Perfection, Council of Princes of Jerusalem, Chapter of Rose Croix, Mahoning Consistory, The Youngstown Shrine Club, and the Al Koran Temple.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Petersburg, where he served as Sunday school teacher, Superintendent, Council, and President. He was also an associate member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Boardman and associate member of Faith Lutheran Church in Punta Gorda, FL. He was a philanthropist, giving much to charities and the church.
To mourn his passing, he leaves a host of cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Edith Brown, who passed away January 27, 2014.
A funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday, May 28 at St. John Lutheran Church, 14394 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road, Petersburg with Pastor Aimee Raymond officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 to noon Wednesday at the church, two hours before the service. There will be a Masonic service at 11 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be at Petersburg Cemetery.
