KITTANNING, Pa. – Matthew D. Pickering, 16, of Kittanning, died of leukemia Saturday at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born Oct. 17, 1997 in East Franklin Township, the son of David and Lori (Bissell) Pickering.
Matt was a sophomore at West Shamoken High School where he was in the band and a member of the Heilman Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Ford City. He loved archeology and his dogs, Annie, Lexie and Gracie.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his paternal grandparents, John and Frances Pickering of Wellsville; two sisters, Jessica Mangir of Philadelphia and Emily Pickering of Kittanning; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be 11 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Kevin Mackey officiating. Burial will be in Ford City Cemetery.
Calling hours are 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Mantini Funeral Home in Ford City. A prayer service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
