Joe ‘Phil’ Kerr

Columbiana, OH Joe “Phil” Philmore Kerr, 75, of Columbiana, OH, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014.

Phil was born on October 6, 1938 in Green Bank, WV, the son of the late Joe B. and Marjorie Lawton Kerr.

He had lived in the area for 45 years and had had been a teacher at Boardman High School for 37 years as well as operating Country Lane Tree Farm for over 15 years.

Mr. Kerr was of the Presbyterian faith and had been a member of the Liberty Presbyterian Church in Green Bank, WV.

Over the years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and lounging at the Kerr Cabin.

He is survived by his wife, the former, Vonda K. Kingdon whom he married August 12, 1960; three sons, Craig (Erin) Kerr of Hillsboro, WV, Cory (Cheryl) Kerr of Jackson, OH and Christopher (Constance) Kerr of Vinton, OH; three sisters, Dians (Richard) Sharp of Willerboro, SC, Jaynne Vance of Salem, VA and Jeanne (Tim) Heavener of Durbin, WV and and three brothers, Dr. Kirklyn (Anna) Kerr of Ashford, CT, Jerry (Karen) Kerr of Warren, OH and JB (Kathy) Kerr of Green Bank, WV. Also surviving are four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna Dean and Jolene Lantz.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana, OH with Rev. Renae Meggett officiating. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the funeral home.

Friends may also call from 12 noon-1 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Liberty Presbyterian Church, Green Bank, WV. A committal service will follow in the Arbovale Cemetery, Arbovale WV, with Rev. Bill Cox officiating.
