George Cheresne

SALEM – George Franklin Cheresne 71, of Salem, went to fly with the angels Monday night from his home.

He was born January 21, 1943 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late George Franklin and Alberta Tenzek (Henderson) Cheresne.

George lived most of his life in the Salem area and was employed at GM Lordstown as a painter for 30 years and retired in December, 1999. In August, 2000 he then worked for Roman Auctioneers for 8 years. A member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Salem and attended St. George Catholic Church in Lisbon. A US Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was a dedicated supporter of the Ohio sports especially Cleveland Indians and the Browns. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, fishing and most of all cruising around town in his 1972 Monte Carlo.

He is survived by his wife, of 41 years, Bobbie Jane (Marquis) Cheresne, children, Heidi Smith of Kensington, Theresa (Mark) Brown of Alliance, George (Jodie) Cheresne and Damion (Kristen) Cheresne both of Salem, step son Robert Smith of Alliance, 12 wonderful grandchildren whom he loved so dearly, his siblings, Fran Tolson and Veronica (John) O’Neil both of Palm Harbor, Florida, Antoinette Tenzek and Mary Ann (Garry) Shasteen all of Salem, Frank (Susie) Tenzek of Leetonia.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter Debbie Smith.

Services will be held on Friday at 7 Pm at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem. The Fr. Stephen Wassie of St. Paul’s Catholic Church officiating. Military honors will be given at the end of the services.

A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the services.
