COLUMBIANA – Gary Esenwein, 71, of Columbiana, passed away March 1 at his home.
He was born on April 1, 1943 in Salem, a son of Robert and Opal (Burton) Esenwein. A 1961 graduate of Leetonia High School, Gary enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict and attained the rank of Technical Sergeant.
Gary worked at local Honda dealers in the area, recently retiring as an auto mechanic.
He liked golfing, gardening, and model airplanes. He was a scout leader with his son’s Boy Scout pack, and also a youth baseball coach. He also enjoyed spending time with his two granddaughters, Alydia (7) and Alyssa (11).
Gary leaves to cherish his precious memory his mother, his son Christopher (Amanda) Esenwein of Austintown; his granddaughters Alydia and Alyssa; and two sisters, Trudy Frederick and Linda DeMaria, both of Columbiana.
He was preceded in death by his father, a sister Patty, who passed away in 1979, and a brother Robert who passed away in 2010.
Friends and family are welcome to attend a graveside memorial service at Columbiana Cemetery on May 16 at 11:00 am with Pastor Ralph Edwards officiating.
