COLUMBIANA – Robert K. Henderson, 77, of Columbiana, passed away Saturday morning, April 12 at his home.
Mr. Henderson was born on March 10, 1937 in Kent, OH, a son of Orlen and Margaret (Mehwinny) Henderson. Robert, a 1956 graduate of East Palestine High School, decided to serve his country by joining the U.S. Marine Corps that same year. He was stationed in Okinawa and rose to the level of Corporal before his honorable discharge in 1960.
Bob married the former Marcia Bevington August 15, 1963 and celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary last year. He owned and operated his own business, Henderson Office Supply, a staple in Columbiana, for 33 years. He also was owner of the Greenford Country Store for 5 years.
To say he enjoyed golfing would be an understatement. He participated in various golf tournaments, programs and leagues and made more holes-in-ones than can be counted. He loved the Cleveland Indians, but loved watching his grandsons playing baseball even more. He was a member of the Salem Hills Golf Club, and supported the Columbiana Chamber of Commerce. He also meet with fellow 1956 East Palestine graduates for lunch once a month to get together and catch up.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife, Marcia; his daughter Sis Birch and her husband Jim, son Matt Henderson and his wife Lily Mae, all of Lisbon; grandsons Levi and Seth Birch; a brother Terry Henderson and his wife Yonny of San Antonio, TX; sisters-in-law Caroline Dilz and her husband Al of Cincinnati, Marlyn Blythe and Fredia Bevington, both of Columbiana; and his beloved dog Ginger and cat Butch.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Edward, sister-in-law Joanne Stephens and her husband Jack, and brothers-in-law Bill Blythe and Charles Bevington.
