Barbara Ellen Thoman, 73, of Elkton, Ohio went to be with her Lord and Savior at 2:53am, Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Cleveland Clinic and is now among the angels.
Barbara was the eldest daughter of the late Emil “Jingles” and Wilma (Morris) Mills. She was born December 15, 1940 in Lisbon, and was a life-long resident of Elkton and a 1958 graduate of Lisbon David Anderson High School.
Barbara married her high school sweetheart, John Thoman, on June 13, 1959.
Along with her husband, survivors include her daughters, Tami (Phil) James of Hanoverton, Tina (Don) Coleman of Elkton, and her son, John (Patti) Thoman of Lisbon. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Renee (Harris) Eichler of Hanoverton, Travis (Kylie) Coleman of Elkton, and Elizabeth James of Berea, as well as, two great-grandsons Trent and Tanner Coleman of Elkton.
Surviving siblings include two brothers, Ronnie Mills of Elkton and Lloyd “Jingles” Mills of Lisbon, and two sisters, Alice Brown of Salem and Cheryl Mills of Lisbon. Barbara was preceded in death by siblings Betty Ferry, Helen Hacker, and Jerry Mills.
Barbara retired as the Columbiana County Law Librarian and was a long-time Elkrun Township Clerk.
She was an active member of the community serving as a 4-H advisor, UMYF leader, and a supporter of Beaver Local school activities. Barbara was a member of the Elkton Canal Days board, the West Point Lions Club, the Elkton United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s group.
One of Barbara’s favorite roles was as a founding member of the Johnny Appleseed Festival where she served as treasurer, and was a member of the entertainment and queen pageant committees for 25 years.
Barbara enjoyed reading, baking, canning, sewing, ceramics and various other crafts. She was happiest while spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Barbara also loved to attend auctions and tractor pulls with her husband.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with Pastor Richard “Dick” Smith of her church officiating. Burial will follow at the Kemble Cemetery in Elkton.
The family will receive friends from 4pm to 7pm, Friday at the funeral home.
