Donald Witherstine

Spartanburg, SC – Donald Leroy Witherstine, 65, died at 6:35 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Witherstine was born November 29, 1948 in Youngstown, OH, a son of Walter S. and Helen R. Cheese Witherstine.

Donald was a maintenance supervisor for many Aldi Stores in South Carolina. He was also a fishing guide and captain. While living in Ohio, he farmed on the Firestone Farms.

Donald was a member of Lake Mount Church of Christ in Rogers, OH and Westview Christian Church in Spartanburg, SC. Donald served in the Marine Corp during Vietnam participating in over 60 military operations. He was a member of the DAV Chapter 3.

He is survived by his wife, the former Carolyn Cusick Simmons, whom he married January 11, 1988; a daughter, Elizabeth (Matthew) Polley of Martinsville, IN; a step-daughter, Deborah (Damion) Brush of Moore, SC; three son, Kevin (Kelley) Witherstine and Spencer Witherstine of Prosper, TX, Don Witherstine of Greenville, SC; two step-sons, Mark Simmons of Columbiana and Keith (Tiffin) Simmons of Mt. Pleasant, SC; four sisters, Mildred Elswick-Bowain of N. Lake Wales, FL, Rita Bergner of Houston, TX, Rosemarie McGuire of Canfield and Marjorie Mead of Columbiana, two brothers, Edward Witherstine of Birmingham, AL and Leroy (Glenda) Witherstine of Salem, OH; and seven grandchildren, Landon Brush, Ethan Brush, Trinity Simmons, Elijah Polley, Jude Polley, Sutton Simmons and Briggs Simmons.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Diana; and two brothers, Walter Witherstine, Jr. and William Witherstine.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014 at Lake Mount Church of Christ, Rogers, OH with Darrel Hall, Evangelist officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.

Friends may call from 6-9 pm Sunday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
