Karl S. Humphrey, age 90, of Hanoverton, Ohio passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at his home. He was born March 18, 1923 in Adair, Ohio, the son of the late William K. and Rose (Loudon) Humphrey.
Karl was a 1940 graduate of Augusta High School and was a U.S. Army paratrooper during WWII where he served in the Asiatic Theater – Japan. After the service he was employed at Ohio Edison and later a school bus driver for United Local Schools. Karl had been a self-employed insurance agent for 25 years and had previously owned and operated Humphrey TV & Appliance for 25 years.
He was a member of the George D. Worth American Legion Post #574 of North Georgetown and a lifetime member of the Musicians Local 222. He had his own band for several years and played trumpet with many other bands for over 50 years. Karl was a member of the Hanoverton Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alfreda L. (Aegerter) Humphrey of Hanoverton, whom he married August 28, 1948; two sons, William B. (Wanda) Humphrey of Homeworth and Mark L. (Sally) Humphrey of Hanoverton; a daughter, Karen (Joe) Kosko of Hanoverton; a brother, Don W. Humphrey of Sebring; and five grandchildren, Abby (Brendan) Johnson, Benjamin (Amy) Humphrey, Joshua Kosko, and Lindsay and Tyler Humphrey; and three great-grandchildren, Londin, Ty and Ella.
A sister, Betty LaRue Heim preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2014, at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home in Salem, Ohio with Pastor Tom Allmon officiating. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery in Hanoverton with military honors provided by the Salem Honor Guard.
