Juanita Bezdek

Juanita Ruth Bezdek (Bails) went to be with her Lord in Heaven on February 5, 2014. Juanita passed away at Hospice House following a ferocious battle with Ovarian Cancer. Juanita was born to John Samuel and Ruth Amanda (Moore) Bails, both deceased, on May 17, 1946. She graduated from West Branch High School in 1964 and Lincoln Christian University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1969 just before marrying the love of her life, Byron Taber (“Tab”) Bezdek of Lisbon who survives.

Juanita, a dedicated mother, raised three children with her husband, all surviving. Meghan Cregan of Mead, Washington, Jolene (Smaage) Thomas of Riverton, Illinois, and Bryce Bezdek (wife, Toni) of Rogers, Ohio.

A faithful Christian, Juanita was an active member of First Church of Christ in East Palestine, Ohio where she served as Office Manager, Youth Coordinator, and Bible Bowl Coach for many years.

Throughout her life, Juanita worked for several employers to support her family. Among them are Eaton Corporation, I.D.E.S. (a missionary service), several local school districts as a Substitute Teacher, and Lake Tomahawk POA until just before her diagnosis. In addition, she volunteered countless hours as a board member of Heartbeat of Columbiana County helping organize and participating in annual Walk for Life events.

Juanita loved the outdoors, finding unspeakable beauty as she wondered at God’s creative hand. Her flower and vegetable gardens reflected her love and devotion to her Savior.

Juanita began knitting scarves and giving them to other women going through cancer treatments. Paying forward all kindness and love poured over her by her friends and church family. Although she succumbed in the battle, she won the ultimate victory as she now sits in Glory with her Father.

Loved ones who passed from this life before her include her parents, a brother, Richard “Dick” Bails, an infant grandson, Logan Christopher Bezdek, and a son-in-law, Kevin William Thomas.

Juanita will be forever remembered and greatly missed by her children and surviving family: brother, John Bails of Sebring, grandchildren Zoe, Haven, and Alex Cregan; Noah, Kate, Alexa, and Luke Smaage and Hunter and Madison Thomas; Aidan and Lauren Bezdek, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Juanita’s family will have a visitation on Monday, February 13, 2014 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. immediately followed by a Memorial Service at First Church of Christ, 20 W. Martin Street, East Palestine, Ohio. Cremation rites have been afforded.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Heartbeat of Columbiana County heartbeatofcolumbiana.org and Lifeline Christian Mission lifeline.org in her memory.
