Edward Roberts

Lisbon – Edward Arthur Roberts, 95, of Elk Avenue, born September 23, 1918 in West Point, Ohio, a son of the late Charles W. and Sarah (Heaton) Roberts, he was the last surviving sibling of two sisters and ten brothers, passed away at 8:30pm, Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Vista Center in Lisbon.

Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Belle (Mahoney) Roberts, who passed away July 17, 2000 after almost 60 years of marriage.

He is survived by his three children, Robert E. (Carla) Roberts of Chino Valley, Arizona, I. Jean (Nick) Bailey of Salem, Ohio, and Trudie G. (Gary) Wedberg of Lisbon, Ohio. A fourth child, Linda Rae Roberts, died a few months after birth in 1943. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren

Mr. Roberts was honorably discharged from the United States Army in October 1945 after serving in Europe during World War II.

He spent his adult life as a resident of Lisbon, Ohio, was a retiree of Kaiser Refractories, and a long-time member of the Lisbon Church of the Nazarene, serving in multiple leadership roles over the years, including as one of the builders of the current building on Market Street.

Mr. Roberts will be remembered for his incredible work ethic, his honesty, and his infectious sense of humor. He was one of those few men who gave more of himself than he ever asked of others. He was a model of good character by his actions – in short, a good man.

Funeral services followed by full military honors will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Brown officiating. Private burial will take place at the Lisbon Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11am until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
