Doyle Gilkinson

Lisbon-Doyle Gilkinson, 79, of State Route 45, passed away at 5:45pm, Friday, February 14, 2014 at Vibra Hospital in Boardman following a long struggle with cancer.

Mr. Gilkinson was born May 2, 1934 in East Liverpool, Ohio, a son of the late Goff and Irene (Murray) Gilkinson.

A 1952 graduate of East Liverpool High School, he also attended Washington Technical College.

In his early years, he drove a steel hauler for Eazor Trucking Company. He later owned and operated his own heavy equipment facility and was also a substitute teacher at the CCJVS.

For many years he was a trainer/instructor for the Ohio-Western Pennsylvania division of Cummins Engine Company, retiring in 2001.

He also served on the Industry Advisory boards of Northwestern College in Lima, Ohio, Owens Technical College, Washington Technical College and several others. Ask him anything about a “Cummins” and he could tell you in detail.

He was the founder of the Rocking Horse 4-H Saddle Club and also served on the 4-H Horse Committee.

He had been a member of the Lisbon First United Methodist Church and had taught junior high Sunday school.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, the former Dorothy Hardman; son, Eric Gilkinson and his wife Linda, and their children, Taralyn, Tori, and Taylor, all of Columbiana; daughter, Lisa Gilkinson and her husband, Joe Crawford of Sorrento, Florida; four children of his previous marriage, Dean (Lori) Gilkinson of Rockwall, Texas, John (Tammy) Gilkinson of Utica, Michigan, Sondra (Chip) Butler of Lisbon, and Rhonda (Ernie) Bertschman of Ladson, South Carolina and their children.

Doyle is also survived by his brothers, Glenn and David Lee Gilkinson, both of East Liverpool and by his sister, Karen Sider of Parkersburg, West Virginia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Keith and Kendal Gilkinson, and by a granddaughter.

Remember him as the great warm-hearted guy he was to everyone.

Following his wishes, no calling hours or funeral services will be held at this time. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
