Enon Valley, Pa. – Roy Franklin McMillin, 62, of Moravia Rd., passed away unexpectedly at 3:59 pm Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Jameson Hospital in New Castle.
Mr. McMillin was born August 6, 1951 in Youngstown, OH a son of Howard and R. (Retta) June (McMillin) McMillin and had lived in this area all of his life.
Roy was a 1970 graduate of Mohawk School and Lawrence County Vocational Technical High School majoring in commercial art. He also graduated with a BS in Secondary Education from Youngstown State University where he was a member of the Non Traditional Student Organization.
He worked as a clerk in the medical records department of Jameson Memorial Hospital for 17 years. He also had been a photo lab manager for Eckerd’s Drug Store in New Castle, PA and a shift manager for Pizza Hut in Beaver Falls, PA.
He was a member of Westfield Presbyterian Church where he was active in the Gospel Searchers Sunday School Class, choir and Men’s Fellowship Breakfast. Roy was a 7th Degree Member of Westfield Subordinate Grange #1514 and was a Past Master.
He was well known for his culinary adventures in dessert making especially chocolate coffee cake, baklava and cheesecakes.
Roy was the Quilt-Rug-Afghan chairperson for many years at the Lawrence County Fair. He was also a judge at the Mercer County Grange Fair. He created several award winning latch hook rugs and wall hangings. Roy was an avid bowler and reader.
Most recently he enjoyed photography and gifted many of his photos to his friends and family.
Roy is survived by three sisters, Nancy Ann McMillin, Mary Elizabeth McMillin and Laura Vannessa McMillin all of Enon Valley.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ila May McMillin.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Westfield Presbyterian Church, New Castle, PA.with Reverend Paul Votaw officiating. Burial will follow in the Westfield Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-3 and 6-8 pm Friday at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine, OH where a Grange service will be held at 3:00 pm. Friends may also call from 12-1 pm Saturday at the church.
