SALEM – Doris Jean Proya (McCormick), 81, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at St. Elizabeth’s Health Center in Youngstown. She was born April 26, 1932, to the late Robert and Grace McCormick (Gentzel) and was the sister of Virigina Reid, Richard McCormick, and the late Harold and Ted McCormick.
Doris was the adored wife to Andrew Proya for 64 years; loving mother to five children: Andrew (Midge) Proya, Jr., Rev. Jeffrey (Kathy) Proya, Grace (David) Fristik, Michelle (Bill) George, and Jon Proya and companion Wendy Thompson; cherished grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was able to touch the lives of many throughout the years with her love, kindness, and compassion, as she provided childcare for numerous members of her community. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and had a love for music.
Doris’ family was blessed to have her a part of their lives, as she was the always the heart of the family. Although they will miss her greatly, she will forever be cherished.
The family will receive family and friends from 12:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home. The funeral service will immediately follow, with her son, Rev. Jeffrey Proya, officiating. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford.
