Mr. David J. Yanssens, 70, of 138 Line Ave., Ellwood City passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014 in the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital at 10:30 pm.
Mr. Yanssens was born on September 22, 1943 in Ellwood City to the late George and Mary Pavuk Yanssens.
Dave graduated from the Beaver Falls High School in 1961, and then from the University of Maryland with a Bachelors Degree in Business. He also served with the U.S. Army Reserves during the 1960’s.
Dave had worked at the Babcock & Wilcox Steel Mill office building in Beaver Falls for several years, and then with Greif Brothers in Darlington for over twenty five years as the plant manager. He was also a co-owner of the Yanssens Brothers Grocery Store in New Galilee during the 1980’s.
Dave is a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish, and had volunteered as a funeral mass server for many years. He was an active member of the Holy Redeemer Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Council.
Mr. Yanssens is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Julie (Jay-R) Needs of Columbiana, OH, his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew (Alessa) Yanssens of Beaver, and his three grandchildren, Jack David Yanssens, Jazlyn Yanssens, and Zeva Needs. He is also survived by his two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim (Emmy) Yanssens of Darlington, and Bill (Valarie) Yanssens of East Palestine, OH.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, 309 Spring Ave., Ellwood City, Pa. Members of the Holy Name Society are asked to meet at the funeral home on Thursday by 7:15 pm to conduct a service at 7:30 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10:00 am in the Holy Redeemer Church with Father Mark Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to meet at the funeral home on Friday by 9:20 am.
Memorial donations in Mr. Yanssens name may be made to the Holy Redeemer Angel Fund.
