Chester Ray McElhaney, currently residing in Tennessee, was born on July 25, 1926 to the late Lester and Rosie McElhaney in Shippingport, PA. On January 10, 2014 he took his final breath on earth, with his wife, Mary, the loved of his life for 66 years, holding his hand as he went with Jesus to reach his final destination ….Heaven. Ray leaves a legacy of joy and love to all who knew him. There will always be an empty place in our hearts because we miss him, but joyful hearts because he accomplished his goal.
Ray was one of 14 children, and is survived by two sisters …Ruth Whittington and Coral Belle Wilkes of Oho; 5 surviving children… Tom (Linda) McElhaney and Marsha Green (both of PA), Vicki (John) Cosma and Tammy (Jeff) Rankin (both of TN), and Larry (Tammy) McElhaney (of OH). He is now reunited with a son who preceded him in death, Randy McElhaney. Also surviving him are his 18 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
He was a retired foreman from Babcock and Wilcox in PA, and also loved farming. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a Christian man who loved the Lord and served as an elder for 25 years at the Lake Mount Church of Christ in New Waterford, Ohio.
Visitation and viewing, under the direction of the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, East Palestine, will be held at the Lake Mount Church of Christ in New Waterford, Ohio from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, with the funeral service and a “celebration of his life” beginning at 1:00 p.m., officiated by a grandson of the deceased, Sheldon Cosma, minister at Phillips Christian Church, Salem, OH. Words of encouragement will also be sent from Charles Doughty, a former minister at the Lake Mount Church of Christ. Ray will also be honored by the military for his service in the U.S. Navy.
