BOARDMAN – Alice I. Mellinger, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday at St. Elizabeth’s Boardman campus in the emergency department after suffering a heart attack.
Alice was born October 14, 1927 in Salem, the daughter of the late Charles and Minnie (Schultz) Campbell.
Alice worked many different jobs throughout her life. Her last employment was as an LPN at Cleveland Clinic from which she retired. She touched many lives with her love for Jesus and her favorite pastimes were spending time with her family and flower gardening.
She was preceded in death by her second husband Reed Mellinger, her stepbrother Earl Cox, her sister Mildred Pruett and her son Dennis L. Johnson.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Allyson (Robert) White and Kathy (Brian) Bakich of North Lima, Beth (Randy) Kimble of Canfield, with whom she resided, and her daughter-in-law Helen Johnson of Boardman. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Rob White of Greenford, Melissa Shandor of North Lima and Dennis L. Johnson, Jr. of Boardman. Great grandchildren include Gracey, Brady and Riley White, Andrew Shandor, Mason and Tanner Shaw.
A celebration of Alice’s life will be held at Boardman Baptist Church, 1207 Shields Road, Boardman, where she was an active member, for family and friends on Friday, January 17 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating the ceremony will be Reverend Dennis Massie. Dinner will be provided after the service in the church.
