EAST LIVERPOOL – Jean L. McKelvey Hanselman, formerly of Elson Street, died Friday, November 29, 2013 at the East Liverpool City Hospital. She was 98.
Born in Toronto, Ohio, April 18, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Thomas L. McKelvey and Myrtle Arnold McKelvey Hood. She lived most of her life in East Liverpool where she raised her family. A member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and its Ladies’ Guild, she most recently attended Northside Community Church. She enjoyed her time as a member of the Triangle Senior Citizens and liked to crochet, sew and do word search puzzles in her spare time along with cheering for the East Liverpool Potters’ sports teams. She was a homemaker most of her life but worked at Curtis Wright in Beaver during WWII.
Her husband, Sterling L. “Bud” Hanselman, died August 24, 2004. The couple married December 25, 1942. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Thomas McKelvey and Harold McKelvey.
She leaves behind her 2 sons: Sterling K. “Bud” Hanselman, and his wife Nancy, of East Liverpool, and Thomas Hanselman, and his wife Suzanne, of Amherst, New York. There are 4 grandsons: Keith Hanselman, and his wife Jennifer, of Cuyahoga Falls, Scott Hanselman, and his wife Erin, of East Liverpool, Tom Hanselman, and his wife Abby, of Endwell, New York, and Brian Hanselman, and his wife Andrea, of Leesburg, Virginia; along with 14 great-grandchildren: Connor, Sophie, Isabella, Lucy, Kyle, Alex, Logan, Paul, Tommie, Trent, Rocco, Mia, Max and Hannah.
In addition, she is survived by a brother Herbert Hood, and his wife Ruth, of Wellsville and a sister Betty Hood Walko of Wellsville.
Pastor Larry Rose of the Northside Community Church will conduct a service at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Dawson Funeral Home. Friends may visit 2 hours prior to the service. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.
Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Northside Community Church for continued fellowship and remembrance.
Memorial tributes may be made in care of Toys For Tots, 626 St. Clair Avenue, East Liverpool, Ohio.
