Jay Taggart

Jay L. Taggart, 77, formerly of Wellsville, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, December 26, 2013 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry, Ohio. He was born in Wellsville, Ohio on October 6, 1936, a son to the late Toddy Taggart and Naomi (Faloon) Taggart-Wilson.

Mr. Taggart lived most of his life in this area working as a rigger for Weirton Steel for 30 years before retiring in 2000. He was a paratrooper for the United States Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting, and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce A. (Purinton) Taggart whom he married on August 13, 1960.

He is survived by a son; Jason D. Taggart and his wife Jennifer of Galesferry, CT, three daughters; Candy S. Arnold and her husband Matthew of Belmont, OH, Sherry Lynn Williamson and her husband Jay of Wellsville, OH and Dawn R. Van-Nice and her husband Doug of River Oaks, TX, three sisters; Bonnie Snyder of Steubenville, OH and Linda Thoburn and her husband Bill of Chester, WV, and Robbie Downard and her husband Paul of Irondale, OH, a brother-in-law; Bob Snyder of Toronto, OH; grandchildren; Bobby Ney, Cory Williamson, Kayla Kidd, Ashlynne Taggart and Addison Grace Taggart, great grandchildren; Aaliyah Ann Kidd, Sutton Grace Kidd and Emelia Joyce Ney.

Services will be held at the Wellsville Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes Monday, December 30, 2013 at 11 AM with Pastor Mark Blakely of First Christian Church in Wellsville officiating.

Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Family will be present to receive friends at the Wellsville Chapel, Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 2 to 6 PM.
