East Palestine, Ohio – Bonnie Jeanne McCarty, 69, passed away Friday afternoon, December 6th, at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, Youngstown, following a recent illness.
Bonnie was born August 5, 1944 in South Gate, California, a daughter of the late Murray Arthur and Dorothy Jean (Wilson ) Smith, and had lived in the area since 1993.
She had worked as a waitress at the Shamrock Tavern and had also worked as a bookkeeper.
Her husband, Jack L. McCarty, preceded her in death May 2, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Murray G. Smith; a son, Richard McCarty; and by her grandson, Shawn McCarty.
Bonnie is survived by her daughters; Jeannette (Fred) Figley, Doreen (Rob) Kaz, and Barbara McCarty; sons, Daniel Van Buskirk, David Van Buskirk, and Duane (Carrin) Whitehead; granddaughter, Jennifer McCarty; grandsons, Richard Lee McCarty, Jr., Patrick Figley, Jack Figley, and Justin Whitehead; and five great grandchildren.
A memorial visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00pm, Wednesday, December 18th, at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home.
In keeping with Bonnie’s way of life, the family has asked that she be remembered by the telling of only humorous stories relating to her life.
