EAST LIVERPOOL – Services will be held at the Dawson Funeral Home for Mary Martha Lawton, who passed away at the age of 90 at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Providence Care Center in Beaver Falls, PA.
Born at her family home in Calcutta on July 21, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Laura Pugh Kirkbride.
A lifelong area resident, she was a member of the First Church of Christ, Disciples, where she had been a deaconess and belonged to the church choir and the quilters league. Mary was a 1942 graduate of East Liverpool High School.
For over 27 years, she was a licensed practical nurse at the East Liverpool Convalescent Center, retiring in 1995. At one point, she hadn’t missed a day of work in 23 years.
She had served as treasurer of the Middleton Senior Citizens and was past president of the Countywide Senior Citizens at Mt. Zion Church. Mary was a 50 year member of the East Liverpool Assembly #71, Social Order of the Beauceant, and Crystal Chapter # 18, order of the Eastern Star.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Joseph W. Lawton, Sr., who passed away in 1967.
Surviving her are three sons, Joseph W. Lawton, Jr., and his wife, Judith of Columbiana, Paul D. Lawton, and his wife Susan of Richmond, VA, and David A. Lawton, and his wife Darla of Mooresville, NC. There are also ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, as well as two brothers: Carl Kirkbride and his wife, Anne, of Calcutta, and Paul Kirkbride of Springfield, OH.
Friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, where the family will be present from 4 to 8 p.m. Rev. Willard “Chuck” Adkins of the church will conduct a funeral service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Long’s Run Cemetery, after which family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.
