Janet Miller Hans
NEW CARLISLE, IN. – Mom, teacher, quilter, seamstress, amateur genealogist, and gardener extraordinaire, Janet Miller Hans died on October 23, 2013 at her home in New Carlisle, Indiana.
She was born January 23, 1934 in Salem, Ohio to Russell and Ruth Entrikin Miller, and grew up on the family farm on Miller Road.
She graduated from Leetonia High School in 1952 and attended Heidelberg College, Bethel College, and IU South Bend earning both Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in education.
Janet taught third and fourth grades at Galena Elementary School, and retired after 23 years of teaching.
She also gave her time to the Community Church as an Elder and member of the Women’s Council, and helped build the church food pantry.
Janet married John Hans in 1955. They lived in Germany and Muncie, Indiana, before settling in New Carlisle. He died in 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Carl K. Miller, and her great friend, Len Belsaas.
Janet is survived by her three children, Ruth of Indianapolis, Tom (Carole) of Waynesburg, Ohio, and Jerry (Gina) of New Carlisle; six grandchildren; a niece, Mary Miller VanBuren of Lisbon and a nephew, Jim E. Miller of Columbiana; and the Belsaas family.
Services were held in New Carlisle, IN.
