Donald Felger

East Palestine, Ohio – Donald E. Felger, Jr., 64, East Martin Street, lost his hard fought battle with cancer on November 13, 2013 at his residence.

He was born Dec-ember 6, 1948 in Salem, a son of Susan Stallsmith Felger and the late Donald E. Felger, Sr., and had returned to the East Palestine area in 1989 after having served in the U.S. Navy for twenty-two years. He had retired as a Sr. Chief Petty Officer, and had served in the Vietnam War. The ships that he had served on included the USS Parks, Higgbee, DeHaven, Yosemite, Wainwright, Trepp, Dewey and Mahan. His tours had also included time as an instructor at Great Lakes, IL, Sema, IN, and Charleston SC, as well as serving in the security department at the naval base in Charleston. Upon returning to this area, he had been employed with the former Mellinger’s Nursery, as well as Sardello’s in Darlington, PA.

Don loved golfing, hunting, and fishing and was an avid outdoorsman.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and the East Palestine Country Club.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lester and Elsie Stallsmith and William and Faye Felger.

In addition to his mother of East Palestine, Don is survived by his wife the former Nancy Burdick, whom he married September 18, 1971; and two daughters, Kelly Felger (Pam Hough), Salem, and Donna Felger, at home. He also leaves three brothers, Jim (Colleen) Felger, Kim (Sherry) Felger, East Palestine, and Russ (Tiffany) Felger, Leetonia, and several brother and sister-in-laws of Michigan and Florida.

A memorial visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home and mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, with Rev. Thomas Ziegler, officiating.

Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford.
