Salem – Ruth J. Gould, 81 of Foxden Drive, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Monday at her residence, following a lengthy illness.
Ruth was born April 29, 1932 in Madison Twp., Armstrong Co., PA, a daughter of the late Roid and Vivian Hetrick McKay, and had resided in the Salem area for the past seventeen years, moving here from East Palestine, where she had been lived since 1963. She had been employed as treasurer with the family business, McKay & Gould Drilling.
She was as member of the First Presbyterian Church of Salem, the Order of Eastern Star and the Salem Golf Club.
Ruth was married on April 11, 1952 to R. Jack Gould, who survives her in the home. She also leaves two daughters, Carla Channell, New Waterford, Cheryl Holmes, Leetonia, and a son Lynn Gould of East Palestine; six grandchildren, Ryan Channell, Ashley Pisano, Cody Holmes, Andrew Holmes, Jobey Gould, and Logan Gould; and two great grandchildren, Wyatt Holmes and Weston Channell. She also leaves a brother, Robert McKay, and a sister, Gail Traister, both of Madison Twp., Armstrong Co., PA.
Two brothers, Ray and Roid McKay, Jr. preceded her in death, as had a grandson, Elliott Channell.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church of Salem, with Rev. Meta Cramer, officiating. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford. The family will receive friends at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, East Palestine, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.
The family has asked that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society or Southern Care Hospice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Southern Care Hospice, the Salem Visiting Nurses, and the private care givers that took exceptional care of Ruth at the end of her fight with cancer.
