EAST LIVERPOOL Norma Jean DeSarro, of Park Boulevard, died Tuesday, October 8, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at the Life Line Hospital in Wintersville following an extended illness. She was 81.
Born in West Union, West Virginia, February 9, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Edna Scott Doak Walker and Harry Doak.
A member of Holy Trinity Parish, for many years she was a member of the former St. Ann’s Parish.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Joseph Jack DeSarro, whom she married January 12, 1952.
Norma’s family meant everything to her; in addition to her husband, she leaves her four loving children: Chris DeSarro, and his wife Carrie, Gina Tatgenhorst, and her husband Bruce, Jackie DeSarro and Angela Guinn, and her husband Wade.
She will be sadly missed by her 11 grandchildren: Nikki Ketchum, and her husband Tommy, Lauren DeSarro, Brittany DeSarro, Courtney Frank, Dickie Bissell, and his wife Jenna, Daminica Bissell, Justina DeSarro, Joey DeSarro, Jordan Seal, Tyler Seal and Ryan Seal, and 4 great-grandchildren: Lux, Giovanni, Christopher and Olivia.
She is also survived by 2 aunts, Ruth Goering and Dotty Scott, cousins Bob and Margie Ann Davis, 5 sisters-in-law: Theresa Pallotti, Antoinette Means, Caroline Larkins, Jean Ann Cunningham and Shirley Curran, a brother-in-law, William Fleming, along with many nieces and nephews.
Known for her sense of humor and motherly love to all, she enjoyed cooking, especially Sunday dinner for her family and friends. Above all things in life and more than words could ever describe, her family and friends were everything to her and she loved being surrounded by them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Walker, a brother, Richard L. “Dick” Doak, as well as her step-father, Charles Walker.
The family would like to thank her caregivers, Dr. Aziz and Dr. Robert Beatty, as well as the nurses, therapists and staff at East Liverpool City Hospital and Life Line Hospital who used all their abilities to help Norma. The family would also like to thank all the prayers said for her; they were appreciated.
Friends may visit Friday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 8 p.m. Fr. Peter Haladej will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Parish.
Burial will be at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Wellsville.
Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
