James ‘Ed’ Thompson
Lisbon – James E. “Ed” Thompson, 90, of Adams Road, died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Parkside Health Care Center.
Mr. Thompson was born February 17, 1923 in Buffalo, AL, a son of the late Zeak and Susie Thrower Thompson.
He served in the US Army during WWII in Central Europe and Rhineland. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received and was also a POW until the end of the war.
He was an owner/operator, along with his brother, of Thompson Brothers Mining Company, New Springfield. He was a member of St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ, New Lisbon Lodge #65 F.&A.M., Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville, Al Koran Shrine, Cleveland, and had served on the Columbiana County Fair Board.
His wife, the former Pauline Meek, whom he married April 15, 1950 died July 9, 2007.
He is survived by three sons, Donald (Mickie) Thompson, David (Kay) Thompson, and Daniel (Jill) Thompson, all of Leetonia; a daughter in law, Vickie Thompson of Leetonia; a sister, LeJean Johnson of LaFayette, AL; 13 grandchildren, Lauren Huffman, Matt Thompson, Adam Thompson, Erin Pusateri, Jaime Booth, Jared Thompson, Elaina Schmidt, Rachel Pelsnik, Erika Scott, Josh Thompson, Ashley Thompson, Jacob Thompson and Zachary Thompson; and five great grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Thompson; four brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with the Reverend Jenna Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbiana County Memorial Park, East Liverpool. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday. New Lisbon Lodge will conduct Masonic Services at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
