Salem – Gene R. Zeppernick, 77, of Salem, passed away quietly Saturday, October 12, 2013 at his son’s home following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Zeppernick was born December 28, 1935 in Salem, a son of the late Marion and ArNella (Campf) Zeppernick.
After attending Salem High School, Gene served in the U.S. Air Force.
He worked as a tool and die maker, also worked in construction, and was a truck driver.
Gene was a member of the Salem Am Vets and he enjoyed hunting, the outdoors and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Marion “Butch” (Penny) Zeppernick, Tami (Jeff) Bash, both of Salem, and Jeannie (Mike) Burrier of Akron; brothers, Donald (Patricia) Zeppernick of Boardman, Robert (Kathleen) Zeppernick of North Carolina, Richard Zeppernick of Kansas, and John (Barb) Girscht of Deerfield; grandchildren, Kathryn Zeppernick, Zachary Mills, Electra Puccini, Leah Capps, Jewelene McCoy, Jesse R. Jackson, II, Jeffrey Bash, Kayla Bash, Chad Bash, Nicole Bash, Ashley Burrier, and Sasha Burrier; 11 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gene was also preceded in death by his sister, Nelda Zeppernick, his brother, Jack Zeppernick, and his wife, Peggy A. Zeppernick.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4pm to 7pm, Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Salem Am Vets, 750 South Broadway Street, Salem.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Gene’s memory to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, Ohio 44512 or Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary, 1859 Depot Rd., Salem, Ohio 44460.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home, Lisbon.
