New Waterford Brent Alan Mercer, 28, of New Waterford, died at 6:04 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Youngstown following an accident at his home.
Brent was born November 24, 1984 in Salem, a son of Daniel and Sherry Dunn Mercer and had lived in the area all of his life. He was a 2003 graduate of Crestview High School and from Pittsburgh Technical Institute. He had been employed as an estimator & project coordinator for Premises Control, Cleveland.
He was a member of Lake Mount Church of Christ and had also attended the First Church of Christ, East Palestine. He was an avid snow skier and enjoyed motorcycling and renovating his home.
He is survived by his mother, Sherry (William) DeRhodes of Columbiana; his father, Daniel (Pamela) Mercer of New Waterford; his wife, the former Julie Heavener Mercer; and his daughter, Kaylee Ann Mercer. Brent’s world revolved around Kaylee; she was everything to him and they were inseparable. He was also survived by a step daughter McKenzie Gallant, whom he raised as his own; a sister, Carli Mercer (Ben) Bliss of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Dustin Mercer of North Royalton, OH; step siblings; Jake Mitchell, Adam Hall, Megan Kinsey, and Shealee Mitchell; his maternal grandmother, Donna Dunn (Jim) Grappo of East Palestine; a paternal grandmother, Dorothy (Daren) Whitacre of Leetonia; and many lifelong friends who were near and dear to him during his life.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Robert Dunn and Guy Mercer, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Lake Mount Church of Christ with Mr. Robert Helbeck, Minister officiating.
Friends may call at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Friday and at the church one hour prior to the services on Saturday. As in life, Brent always gave selflessly and in death continued by saving and enhancing lives by being an organ and tissue donor. In lieu of flowers and other material gifts, the family would appreciate a donation to his daughter, Kaylee’s Trust Fund through Huntington Bank, under the Brent Mercer Memorial Fund.
