EAST LIVERPOOL Former Broadview Circle resident Mary Pilutti McGowan passed away at 11:00 p.m. Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Harmar Place, Marietta, OH, at the age of 89. Mary had moved to the Marietta area several years ago to be closer to family and resided there until her illness.
She was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada on October 4, 1923, a daughter of the late John and Louise Muzzin Pilutti.
The 1942 valedictorian of Irondale High School, Mary had come to this area in 1938. She furthered her education at the Akron City Hospital School of Nursing, and had worked as a registered nurse for many years, primarily at East Liverpool City Hospital, Extended Care Center, and for Drs. Fred and Bill Banfield. Mary had also taught Medical Technology at the Ohio Valley Business College at one time.
Mary was a devoted Catholic and had belonged to the St. Aloysius Church for many years, and was involved in the school there when her boys were young. She also participated in the Altar & Rosary Society and the Lady Knights.
Her husband, James J. “Ace” McGowan, passed away on December 27, 2005. They had been married since June 28, 1951 and served as loving role models, not only to their two sons, but also to their extended family and many friends.
Surviving are sons Michael A. McGowan and his wife, Bonnie, of Marietta, and Patrick J. McGowan and his wife, Gina, of South Riding, VA. There are seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is a brother, Adelchi Pilutti of Ocean Springs, MS., as well as a sister in law, Rita Pilutti, of Beaver Creek, OH. Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, Aldo and Albert Pilutti.
Father Charles Crumbley will be the celebrant at a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church at 10:00 a.m. Friday.
Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Thursday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Burial will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
