Kenneth Persohn

WELLSVILLE Kenneth A. Persohn, lifetime area resident and retired Edison Local school principal, passed away at his residence on Campground Road in Wellsville on Friday, September 13, 2013. He was 89.

Born on October 7, 1923 in East Liverpool, he was a son of the late Nelle Perry and John Joseph Persohn. Following his graduation from East Liverpool High School in 1941, Ken joined the Marines and served his country a total of ten years during both World War II and the Korean War.

He married his wife, the former Evelyn M. Jones, on January 1, 1945. She preceded him in death on November 24, 1996.

The Persohns were active members of Trinity Presbyterian Church, with Ken serving as a deacon, an elder, and also a lay pastor. He was also part of the grounds crew at the church, sang in the church choir for many years and had been a Sunday School teacher for over 55 years. Up until the last few years, Ken was an active participant in the church’s Easter Pageant, in which he was one of the original organizers, and also designed and constructed the scenery.

Surviving are two daughters: Denise Persohn and her husband, Steven Kestle, of St. Louis, MO, and Terry Sutton and her husband, Fred, of Atco, NJ.

There are four grandchildren as well, William Reinhardt and his wife, Kelly; James Reinhardt, Amalyn Martin, and Christopher Martin and his wife, Christina, in addition to seven great-grandchildren: Kerrie Reinhardt, Krista Reinhardt, Kathryn Reinhardt, Bailey Blasi, Mila Gerard, Connor Martin and Cameron Martin.

In addition to his wife, Ken was preceded in death by two brothers, William Persohn and Joseph Persohn.

A memorial service and military tribute will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Dr. Stephen Cramer as the officiant, followed by a continued time of fellowship at the church. Friends may visit the family at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
