COLUMBIANA – John C. “Jack” Manning, 87, passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, at St. Elizabeth Health Center following a brief illness.
John was born on July 1, 1926 in Salineville, the son of Oliver and Maude (Coughen) Manning, and lived his entire life in the Salineville, Lisbon, and Columbiana areas.
He served his country in the US Army in the Pacific Theatre during WWII.
John was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church and a 67-year member of the John Adams American Legion Post #422 in Salineville.
John leaves to cherish his precious memory, his four step-sons, Robert McIntosh of Lisbon, Leroy McIntosh of Lake Milton, Barton Steffy of Chester, Va., and Carter (Ok. Pun) Steffy of Canton; several nieces and nephews; and his companion for the past 11 years, Verna Echard.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Elaine Wallace McIntosh, whom he married on July 6, 1956, passed away on March 8, 1979; his second wife, the former Mavis Smith Steffy, whom he married Oct. 5, 1981 and died on Aug. 6, 2002; and eight brothers, William, Paul, Charles, Francis, Thomas, Earl, Joseph, and Harold Manning.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana with the Deacon Dr. Louis Cosentino celebrating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the services Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Salineville, where the honor guard of the John Adams American Legion Post #422 will perform military honors.
