John Jones

Lisbon- Dr. John Eldon Jones, 99, formerly of North Market Street, passed away peacefully at 11:05am, Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the Whetstone Care Center in Columbus, Ohio.

Dr. Jones was born February 16, 1914 in Jacksonville, Ohio, a son of the late Pearley Eldon and Isabell (Smith) Jones.

He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1932, the Ohio State University, College of Optometry in 1936 and did his post graduate work at the University of Chicago 1937-1938.

He had an Optometric Practice in Lisbon from June 1939 until his retirement in July 1989. He was a member of the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church and former member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the New Lisbon F&AM Lodge #65, Youngstown Scottish Rite, John J. Welsh American Legion Post #275, Life Member of the OSU Alumni Association, former member of the Lisbon Kiwanis Club and Rotary.

Dr. Johns helped to organize and was a past president of the Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce, was a former member of the American and Ohio Optometric Associations. He also served in the U.S. Navy as an officer during WWII.

His wife, Louise (Finley) Jones, whom he married June 24, 1938, preceded him in death May 9, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Arlene Knox and by his brother, Harold Jones.

He is survived by his daughters, Janet (Peter) Casper of Phoenix, AZ and Leslie (Paul) Weber of Columbus; son, Craig (Stephanie) Jones of Columbus; sister, Dorothy Daughters, of Newark, OH; brother, Larry Jones of Shorewood, IL; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1 pm, Monday, September 16, 2013 at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark R. Wilds officiating, Burial will follow in the Lisbon Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from noon until 1pm Monday at the funeral home.
