Vera Horst

Columbiana – Vera L. Horst, 86, of Columbiana, died at 3:00 pm Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Whispering Pines Village, Columbiana.

Mrs. Horst was born June 3, 1927 in Rinard Mills OH, a daughter of Verner and Delsie Cline Smith and had lived in this area all of her life.

Vera was a cosmetologist and then was a foreman at Ballonoff Metal Inc. in Columbiana for many years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Leetonia. She also worked as an activity director for Camelot Arms in Cornersburg. Vera was also trained in kidney dialysis and dialyzed Butch at home for 18 years. Vera was a selfless volunteer for the Community Action with Meals on Wheels in Leetonia, Red Cross Blood Drives and the Clowning Group with AARP.

Her first husband, Leo Horst, whom she married April 2, 1949, died October 5, 1987. Her second husband, Michael Dzurenko, whom she married August 9, 2003, died July 16, 2004.

She is survived by her daughters, D. Lynn (Chuck) Hamilton of Columbiana, Sandra (Bob) Pinon of Rio Rancho, NM and Lorie (Mark) Wilkins of McDonough, GA; her sister, Norma Jean Fristick of Tiltinsville, OH; eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

Besides her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lisa Lynn Hamilton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with her son-in-law, Pastor Chuck Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6-8 pm Friday and 10-11 am Saturday at the funeral home.
