James Smith

Columbiana – James Allen “Smitty” Smith, 66, of Columbiana died Monday, July 29, 2013 of a probable heart attack.

Mr. Smith was born December 13, 1946 in Salem, a son of Roy C. and Edna M. Cowan Smith and had lived in this area all of his life.

Jim was an assembler for Chester Hoist in Lisbon for 35 years. Jim loved bicycling, hiking and fishing. He loved his family and friends and frequently spent time with them at McDonald’s. He was known by his friends as a giving person and was always willing to help others. He was a former member of the Outspoken Wheelman Club and was an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop #70 in New Waterford.

Jim served in the US Navy during Vietnam.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Ann Selby, whom he married September 12, 1971; a sister, Jenny Smith of Columbiana; a brother, Gene (Donita) Smith of Columbiana; two brothers-in-law, Dave (Debbie) Selby and John (Janice) Selby all of Columbiana; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the Church of the Nazarene, Columbiana with Pastor Jan Winnale officiating. Military honors will be accorded following the service. Friends may call from 1-2 pm at the church.

Contributions in memory of Jim may be made to the Columbiana Library or the Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion.

The arrangements are being handled by the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
