Roberta Dattilio

Columbiana – Roberta A. Dattilio (“Bobbie”), 70, of Columbiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 9:30 p.m. at the St. Elizabeth Health Center, Boardman, after a long illness.

Mrs. Dattilio was born February 26, 1943 in Salem, a daughter of the late Robert C. and Mary A. Stumpo McCoy. A 1961 graduate of Leetonia High School, she enlisted in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and went to boot camp at Bainbridge, MD (the original female boot camp, before the Orlando, FL, Naval Training Center was commissioned). She was assigned to Bethesda Naval Hospital, MD as a RN apprentice, and was there when JFK was brought in after his assassination. She had been employed as a food service manager for various restaurants including Arby’s and Del Taco.

Bobbie was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Leetonia; Joe Williams Post #131 of the American Legion in Leetonia, and York Drexler Post #5532 of the VFW in Washingtonville. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading, and collecting teddy bears. Her husband, Jerald A. Dattilio, whom she married July 15, 1967, preceded her in death on November 25, 1992.

She is survived by four sons, Michael D. Dattilio of Needham, MA, Daniel P. (Denni) Dattilio of Lakewood, CA, Jerald A. (Heidi) Dattilio of Columbiana, and Joseph M. Dattilio of Glenville, WV; a step daughter, Lorene S. (Larry) Martin of Lisbon; a sister, Christina (Don) Secrest of Salem: two brothers, Edward F. (Christie) McCoy of Green Valley, AZ and Gerard J. (Michael Hornback) McCoy of Port Orange, FL; as well as ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 25th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Leetonia with the Reverend Stephen Wassie officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Continuing the celebration of Bobbie’s life, a reception of family, friends and food will take place Saturday, July 27th from 12-4 p.m. at the American Legion in Leetonia. Funeral arrangements are being made by the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.
