East Palestine – Jack L. Cope, 72 of Neeld Road, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Monday at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Jack was born October 23, 1940 in Rogers, a son of the late Berthol and Veda Tullis Cope, and was a lifelong resident of the Rogers and East Palestine areas. Prior to his retirement several years ago he had been employed with various coal mining companies including East Fairfield, Ferris, and Ralph Veon Coal Companies, to name a few.
At one time he had been a member of the East Palestine Booster Club, as well as the loyal Order of Moose # 467. He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church.
Jack is survived by his wife, the former Sorelle Mahon, whom he married December 29, 1962; and two sons Tim (Carol) Cope, and Mike (Carrie) Cope, both of East Palestine. He also leaves a brother, Jim Cope, and a sister, JoAnn Whitacre; and seven grandchildren, Dalton, Austin, Travis, Lucas, Taylor, Jack, and Beau.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Albert, Robert, Dale, Ronnie, and Betty Cope, Jane Muller, and Evelyn Stacy.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark McTrustry of the church, officiating. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
