Daryl Zern Aikens, age 66, of Salem, died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at his home following a long illness.
He was born February 26, 1947 in Corry, Pennsylvania, a son of Zern Aikens and Artis (Sanor) Aikens Arter.
Before his retirement in 2005, Daryl had worked as a machinist for 35 years at Deming Pumps. He served in the U.S. Army for three years and was a member of Faith Chapel in Salem.
His wife, Betty (Lake) Aikens, whom he married August 19, 1972, survives him along with a son Daniel Daryl (Susie) Aikens of Salem; a sister, Linda Helke of Elyria; a brother, Dennis (Karen) Aikens of Leetonia; and three grandchildren, Brooke, Haley and Madison.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Faith Chapel with Pastor Larry Paxson officiating. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Faith Chapel prior to the service. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Salem Honor Guard.
