East Liverpool, Ohio – Marie Litton Mose of Blakely Street in East Liverpool, passed away at the age of 96 at 3:15 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013 at the Trinity West Hospital in Steubenville. Marie, who loved life and lived it fully for as long as she possibly could, had been ill for some time.
Born on February 23, 1917 in Ripley, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late James and Minnie Reynolds Casto. She had attended Capitol City Commercial College in Charleston, WV, and was graduated from the School of Cosmetology in Huntington before making her way to the East Liverpool area in 1950. She then attended the former A & H School of Cosmetology in East Liverpool, and was later a supervisor there from 1953-55. Marie was also graduated from the Zigerella Brothers School of Advanced Training in Pittsburgh and the Robert Fiance School of Color in Little Washington, PA.
Marie owned and operated her own shop, the former Clip ‘n Curl in Wellsville for forty years, and lovingly cared for older folks by styling their hair at Nentwick Convalescent Center for the last 25 years of her career.
A member of the First Church of Christ (Disciples), she was active in the Sigma Alpha class, the church choir, and was president of the Ladies League quilting group for many years. She was an excellent quilter, loved to sew, and she enjoyed her fellowship with other quilters.
An avid traveler, Marie toured most of England, Ireland, Israel, the Caribbean, and the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska. She also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, Crystal Chapter #18, and for many years was a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Holy City Shrine #1 of West Virginia. She was also a member of the National Cosmetology Association Affiliate #15.
Marie was preceded in death in April 1945 by her first husband, Flavy F. Litton, and by her second husband, Daniel G. Mose, who died in April 1991. She was also preceded by her son, James L. Litton, who died on January 5, 2008, as well as four sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include her stepson, Gary Mose and his wife, Shirley, of Ranson, WV; a daughter-in-law, Esther Litton, of East Liverpool; four grandsons, Steve Litton of East Liverpool, Todd Litton and his wife, Tannis, of Wichita, KS, Jim Litton of East Liverpool, and Scott Litton, also of East Liverpool. There are five step-grandchildren: Tim Mose, Pete Mose, Kendle Mose, Kathy Cline and Crystal Boyd, all of Ripley, WV, as well as three great-grandchildren.
Marie also leaves behind a dear friend and companion, Eskil Elmeer of Austintown, OH.
Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. An Eastern Star service will take place at 7:45 p.m. Friday.
Family And friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center immediately following the service.
Rev. Willard Chuck Adkins of the church will conduct services at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
