Salem – Albert T. Hartley, age 90, of Salem, died at 2 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013 at the home of his son.
He was born September 8, 1922 in Barnesville, Ohio, son of the late Arthur and Mary E. (Whinnery) Hartley.
Albert was the owner of Hartley Orchard for 40 years and was a founding member of the Bible Holiness Chapel.
Albert was a 1940 graduate of Olney Friends Boarding School and attended Mount Union College. He served with various fruit growing associations as a board member and officer. He was a passionate bird watcher.
His wife, Clara E. (Warrington) Hartley, whom he married December 14, 1945, preceded him in death on April 18, 2008.
Survivors include sons, Donald E. (Jill) Hartley of Barnesville, OH, Bruce E. (Cindy) Hartley of Lexington, NC, Burton L. (Becky) Hartley of Leetonia and Marcus P. (Cindy) Hartley of Leetonia; daughters, Doris M. (John) Rector of Comanche, OK, and Rita S. (Garreth) Johnson of Fayette, OH; a sister, Flora Simms of Sebring; 20 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Lester K. Hartley; brothers, W. Everett, Clifford, and Robert Hartley; and sisters, Lucille Kelsall, Laura Sturgeon and Sarah Gidley.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2013 at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Wesley Hunting and Rev. Dan Parker officiating. Friends may call on Sunday, June 16, 2013 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Bible Holiness Chapel Cemetery.
