Harry McBride

CANFIELD – Harry L. McBride of Canfield died on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Hospice of the Valley. Mr. McBride was born on March 1, 1928 and was the son of the late Harry and Stella McBride of Columbiana. He is survived by his adoring wife of 56 years, the former Martha Elaine Brunner of Salem, and his younger brothers Charles David and Donald Eugene.

Harry and Marty were united in marriage on Aug. 9, 1957 by the Reverend T. P. Laughner of Leetonia at Holy Trinity English Lutheran Church in Salem. Since their marriage, Harry and Marty resided in Canfield and have been members of Zion Lutheran Church in Youngstown for over 50 years.

Harry has two sons. His oldest, Terri, recently retired as the sales engineer for Automated Solutions in Knoxville, Ark. and his youngest son, Scott, is dean of the Caudill College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Morehead State University in Kentucky. He has two granddaughters, Molly Catherine McBride and Kelly Jo McBride; a grandson, Patrick Ryan McBride; and two daughters-in-law, Cathy and Jill.

Mr. McBride had a long career as mechanical design draftsman that began with Columbiana Engineering, Electric Furnace Company, and Morgan Engineering. He was one of the founding employees of C.F. Simmers Crane Design and Services Company, where he worked for 34 years before retiring in 1998 at the age of 70. Mr. McBride was a Columbiana Clippers High School basketball, football and track athlete and was especially proud to have played on the 1947 Columbiana Clippers basketball team that had a 25-1 season and won the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association “Class B” Boys State Championship.

In addition to keeping up with his extended family, Mr. McBride was an avid motor sports fan, antique enthusiast and fastidious home landscaper. He belonged to the B.O.P. Elks Lodge No. 305 in Salem and United Commercial Travelers. He was a devoted husband and father who loved his family, life and his faith.

Calling hours are scheduled on Sunday, May 5 from 2-4 p.m. at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel, 65 N. Broad Street. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 6 at 12 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 3300 Canfield Rd., Youngstown (Cornersburg), with a visitation preceding the service at 11 a.m. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Duane Jesse, Senior Pastor. A reception luncheon will be held after the service. A short graveside service at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens in Rogers will be held after the luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512 and/or Zion Lutheran Church.
