Eileen Gillespie

EAST PALESTINE – Eileen Lucille (Huston) Gillespie, 72, formerly of East Palestine, died Saturday, May 18, in California after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Gillespie was born in East Palestine on Oct. 12, 1940, the daughter of the late Glenn and Letha (Hamilton) Huston.

A graduate of East Palestine High School, she attended Kent State University for two years. She later received a bachelor of arts in administration from the University of Redlands in California. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

She married Richard Gillespie in 1960, and they moved to Akron. They moved to California in 1969.

Mrs. Gillespie was a medical staff services administrator with Adventist Health System for approximately 35 years, retiring in 2003.

After her retirement, she moved to Columbiana until 2008 when she became ill and moved to Vacaville, Calif., with her daughter.

In addition to her ex-husband of Nipomo, Calif., she is survived by two daughters, Teresa (Jeff) Ryan of Vacaville, and Sheryl (David) Shyers of Miami, Okla.; four grandchildren, Heather Nelson, Heidi Kinney, Weston Walter and Emma Walter; and three great-grandchildren, Gwendelynne, Lilliah and Memphis.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, June Vargo and Doris Simmonds.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at Salem Memorial Cemetery, Waterford Road, East Palestine, with Mrs. Gillespie’s son-in-law, the Rev. David Shyers, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Eileen.
