CANFIELD – Donald Manning, 72, of Canfield, passed away Tuesday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
He was born on April 25, 1941 Salem, the son of Edward and Laura (Boring) Manning, and was a lifelong area resident.
A 1959 graduate of Salem High School, Don received a certificate of mechanical drafting from the Salem School of Technology and an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering from Youngstown State University.
He had previously worked for Wean Engineering in Warren, L. W. Nash Co. in East Palestine, Steel Valley Crane in Canfield, and Herr-Voss in New Castle, Pa.
Donald was a devoted member of Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ, previously serving as an elder and singing in the choir. In his spare time, he loved to golf and solve crossword puzzles.
Donald leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Donna Manning; his wife, Phyllis (Plummer) Manning, whom he married on August 24, 1963; a daughter, Lisa (Harry) Bircher of Columbiana; a son, Matthew (Meg) Manning of Nashville, Tenn.; his grandchildren, Vaughn and Riley; four brothers, George (Doris) Manning of Louisville, Ky., Ralph (Jo Ann) Manning of North Canton, Richard (Patricia) Manning of Norton, and Edward (Mary Ann) Manning of Salem; a sister, Penny (Tom) Peters of Piney Flats, Tenn.; a brother-in-law, Elmer Aebi of Alliance; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Aline Aebi.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ with Rev. Melinda Q. Lacefield officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima and one hour prior to the services Friday at the church.
