Rita Staudohar

EAST PALESTINE – Rita O. Staudohar, 89, of South Washington Street, passed away peacefully at 5:50 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013 at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family.

Rita was born July 29, 1923 in Pittsburgh, Pa., a daughter of the late John and Sarah Fleck.

A graduate of St. George High School in Pittsburgh, she worked as a secretary at St. Paul of the Cross Retreat House. Later she worked at Catholic Social Services of Pittsburgh as secretary to the associate director and supervisor of the typing pool. Rita also worked at DT Watson as a teacher’s aide, caring for physically challenged children.

Later, she was an active member in St. Rose of Lima Church in Darlington, Pa. Rita was also a cast member in the passion play at St. Michael’s Church in Pittsburgh. She organized many church activities as a volunteer for St. Michael’s Church and St. Paul of the Cross Monastery.

Rita is survived by her loving husband, Bob; her daughters, Robin (the late Dr. Foster) Hages, Cindy (Lou) Winczner, and Janice (Brian) Cartwright; son, James (Carol) Froehlich; granddaughters, Jennifer Rubino, Katie Frye, and Tiffany Greene; grandsons, James, Michael, Steven, Charles, and Jamie Froehlich; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sons Charles and Gregory Froehlich and five brothers and three sisters.

A funeral mass will be held at noon Monday, April 22, 2013 at St. Rose of Lima Church, Darlington. Private burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Palestine at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, East Palestine.

The family also suggests that memorial contributions be made, if desired, to Hospice of the Valley Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Rd., Poland, Ohio 44514.
